Book Review on "Great Indian Children's stories by Stephen Alter"

Great Indian Children’s stories edited by Stephen Alter is a collection of nine heart-warming stories written by renowned authors. These stories are more about love and affection that stirs the emotional factor of every reader.

Each story has its own beauty in attracting the reader's attention. This book is not just for children but also for young adults who can experience the joy of reading by getting to know many stories compiled in one book.

What is more important while reading a book? “The adventure that springs through our heart while reading a book is one of the most wonderful escapades that all readers render, in the book one can manifest the cognitive action and such events are rare occurrences”.

Most of the stories are from the twentieth century while stories like “The Kabuliwallah” by Rabindranath Tagore and “Idgah” by Munshi Premchand are found to be renowned classics of the eighteenth & nineteenth centuries. The stories in this one book give us the satisfaction of reading nine books anthologized in one place. It also stirs readers to explore the original works and relish them.

My favourite stories were “The blue umbrella” by Ruskin Bond, “The Kabuliwallah” by Rabindranath Tagore and “Idgah” by Munshi Premchand. In addition, I wish to express my deep appreciation for the author for selecting such exclusive elite stories. These will inspire children and young adults to cherish their experience of reading this book.

My rating is ⭐⭐⭐⭐ for this emotional experience.

"Book Review on Pokhran by Uday Singh"

Pokhran by Uday Singh is his debut Novel focussed on the place named Pokhran sprouts the story line of the book.

The story whirls around protagonist Chaitanya a physically challenged person born at Pokhran destined to do something for the world. He is an intelligent person who faced so many challenges and hurdles in his life. The journey of his life is filled with unexpected twists and turns that makes the story more interesting. His love and marriage life with Zara is more charming and admirable. It totally depicts the practicality where love always wins over anything in this world.  His desire for quenching his knowledge thirst and so many heart drenching incidents makes the reader more involved.

Zara’s quest of saving her community Yazidi’s future with the help of Chaitanya and her boldness of voicing out for people in need is admirable that depicts her braveness too. Zara’s appearance makes the story more cherished and pleasing. Radhika, Chaitanya’s sister who takes care of him completely after his mother demise is so touching while his father Paramvir even though mean to his son actually made him more reliable and tough in order to face the world without fear.

The book in short is a page turner with simple language and an intriguing read. It has both positive and negative aspects. Positivity is filled were an physically challenged person does wonder of inventing nuclear stuffs that creates a good example of nothing is impossible in this world even if we are physically challenged. Negativity is, too many deaths are found that makes the book less attractive and sometimes annoyed.

Love, friendship, death, sorrow, happiness, vengeance, kindness & braveness what not flavours have been added to make the story more definitive.

The book is full of tragedies and a common cause of saving people and the desire to do something for their well-being is the actual message conveyed throughout the book.

My rating is 4 stars for this vivid read.

Book Review on Sakthi by Vignesh SV

Sakthi by Vignesh SV is a mythological story and the first book of Chosen Hexad Series filled with bravery, emotions, threat, death and destruction.
The story whirls around protagonist Sakthi, daughter of Devaguna from Meghavaazhi. A courageous girl tries to get herself as the head of the tribe and puts her full effort of gaining the same. Sakthi being one among the six Hexad, the chosen one by the Trio to face the Greater Evil that awaits and to satisfy the prophecy.
She is filled with full of charisma and energy that makes her unique among the people of Thevas. The way Sakthi grapples each fight whether with the Arke or the Garags or the Lion Simma was amazing to see how bravely she defended herself and came victorious. The emotion filled at each of the situation was stupendous.
The story makes us to enter into ancient times and visit places through our authors alluring words. The book projects woman power, and it gives positive energy to all especially woman readers with enigma at places, making us curious to know what happens next?
The plot and scheme of the story is highly impressive with magic coalescence makes us more intrigued throughout the book. Friendship, leadership, courage and what not can be added? makes the story a bliss for readers. The writing style of the author is coaxing and makes the reader bewitched.
The story-line is good with simple and cogent language. The pacing of the story is swift and filled with vividness throughout the book. And I am awaiting to read the upcoming series and eager to know how they defeat the indignation of greater evil.

Book review on Faith and Beloved by Kochery C Shibu

Faith and beloved by Kochery Shibu is a suspense thriller filled with lust, rage, betrayal and revenge that engages reader with thrill throughout the book. The story whirls around Naithy, Alice and Prem the main characters who plays a leading role in driving the story with gripping attitude.
Alice kills her step-father and runs away, while Prem’s brother Arun gets killed mysteriously and he scrutinize things to find the truth hidden in his brother’s murder are the main aspect of the story.

Each character runs to save their loved ones and even ready to risk their own lives for saving them. Tragedy and twists that makes the story more interesting and livelier. The story deployed with multiple plots enthralling us right from the beginning to the end. Two story lines that takes place side by side and the knots of the story gets removed one by one revealing us the interconnection.

The language is kept simple and the pacing of the story is good yet I felt a bit dragging at some places. Delineating about Kalari a martial art with a legacy of more than 3000 years in the story portrays it more beautifully. Reading is one of the best ways to learn and understand new things, this book drives us to numerous places and make us feel the real adventure through the author’s words.

The author explains each and every situation in a detailed manner and there are too many characters involved that keeps the journey of the story long lasting. The description about each family’s origin is so fascinating and appealing. The book also speaks about the terrorist organizations like ISIS, ISI, LTTE etc., makes the reader appalling at times.

I recommend this book to all readers who prefer thriller genre.

My rating is 🌟🌟🌟🌟 for this vivid book.

Book Review on The Guest List by Lucy Foley

The Guest list by Lucy Foley lays us in a trap with the wedding guest and the death mystery which involves chain of events that happens in the lives of the main characters of the novel leads us to the mystery murder. The novel moves with multi- stranded narrative mode that keeps us engaging and reveals the indignation, remorse and anxiety of the narrators.

Will Slater a handsome guy and a rising star, Julia Keegan (Jules) a beautiful woman and an aspiring editor of a magazine, plans their wedding at an Irish Island. Unknown about the tragedy that is waiting for them, they prepare for their wedding with the guest list and all other arrangements for their marriage.

Aoife the wedding planner, Johnno - Will’s friend, Olivia step sister of Jules’s, Hannah wife of Charlie a guest from Jules side are the main narrative characters each possessing some hidden past & dark secrets that they carry throughout the story.

A page turner with so many knots and each removed one by one at each stage of the events are exciting. Yet the story is bit dragging and annoying at some places leaving readers at exasperation.

The novel engages the reader to suspect all the main characters and till the end one is unable to come to a conclusion of who did this murder and why? All remains a mystery till the end and that is how Lucy Foley makes the reader occupied throughout the book.

An exemplary whodunnit, mirroring Agatha Christie’s style with so many twist and turns that leaves the story unpredictable. It makes us guessing the murderer from the beginning till the end and reveals the suspense with an unexpected twist.

My rating is four stars for this agog read.

Book Review on The Night of Broken Glass by Feroz Rather

The Night of Broken Glass by Feroz Rather is a debut novel with a collection of inter – related short stories and a heart wrenching work of fiction.

The main concept of the book whirls around chain of stories that happens in the lives of Kashmir’s mankind. The book takes us on a terrific journey of 13 stories with characters that moves in and moves out throughout the tale.

One can sense a mix of love, lust, blood, bullet, hatred, revenge etc., that makes the reader engaging. Some stories are fast paced and some are bit dragging and yet a book filled with sorrow and death lurking in Kashmiri’s life.

“A living hell” what can be more described about the lives of these peoples. About the characters Inspector Masoodi a man of living danger, Major S a man of horror, Gulam a cobbler who craves for his son’s love faces insult from the Force 10, the army soldiers.  Jamshid son of Gulam ought to be a scholar loves Rosy an upper caste girl who faces a miserable fate of death. And many more characters filled with emotions of remorse and revenge at each story level.

Even during the curfew times people still have faith, love and friendship are some of the best highlights in the book.

Now coming to certain aspect of the book, the cover looks beautiful and the title is intriguing. The language is good and crisp. A warning to readers, this book has a smell of death and sorrow; fragile heart’s please stay away.

My rating is 4 stars for this dark read.

Book Review on The Grown Up by Gillian Flynn

Blurb:

A young woman is making a living faking it as a cut-price psychic (with some illegal soft-core sex work on the side). She makes a decent wage mostly by telling people what they want to hear. But then she meets Susan Burke.

Susan moved to the city one year ago with her husband and 15-year-old stepson Miles. They live in a Victorian house called Carterhook Manor. Susan has become convinced that some malevolent spirit is inhabiting their home. The young woman doesn't believe in exorcism or the supernatural. However when she enters the house for the first time, she begins to feel it too, as if the very house is watching her, waiting, biding its time . . .

The Grownup, which originally appeared as 'What Do You Do?' in George R. R. Martin's Rogues short story anthology, proves once again that Gillian Flynn is one of the world's most original and skilled voices in fiction.

My Review:

The Grown Up by Gillian Flynn is a different story line with unpredictability. The beginning is bit slow and the story becomes fast paced when the protangonist meets her client Susan. The book is a short read in which one can experience the chill run through their spine. The book engages the reader throughout the story yet the end is hypothetical where one needs to arrive their own conclusion which leaves the reader under exasperation.

My rating is 3 stars for this minuscule read.
